L17 – mandatory training at a driving school

Caution

In general, these rules also apply to EU citizens in Austria.

Supplementary training

During the period in which the learner is doing their on-road training, they must also attend supplementary training: sessions at a driving school (→ WKO)German text

  • After 1.000 km of on-road training:
    First supplementary training session
  • After 2.000 km of on-road training:
    Second supplementary training session

Both the learner and their supervisor must attend these sessions. They consist of a practical part (on-road training drive) and a one-on-one discussion of the results of the training drive with an instructor.

The log book must be brought along to these supplementary training sessions.

Skill refinement training

After covering at least 3.000 km during their on-road training, learners must attend skill refinement training at a riving school(→ WKO)German text.

The learner uses a vehicle provided by the driving school to carry out training drives in the presence of their supervisor. During this training, they will also take a mock driving test (three sessions).

Detailed information about applying for a driving test can also be found at oesterreich.gv.at.
