Residual waste containers

House owners, property owners or authorised property managers can order or cancel residual waste containers from the competent authority if required.

Waste paper containers, organic waste bins

Property owners, authorised property managers or representatives such as allotment garden leaders can order waste paper containers or organic waste bins from the competent authority if required.

Requirements

Waste paper containers

Waste paper containers are only provided in houses or house complexes with at least three residential units.

Organic waste bin

The competent authority provides a free organic waste bin if

  • there is an appropriately sized green area on the property in question and
  • a residual waste container from the competent authority is available.

There are separate regulations for allotment gardens and housing estates.

The organic waste bin collects garden waste and unseasoned and uncooked fruit and vegetable waste from the kitchen, but not food waste.

The persons concerned can order a second organic waste bin for a plot if the garden area is larger than 1,000 square metres.

Procedure

An order, cancellation or change of containers (container size, number of containers, number of emptying) can only be made in the form of an application by the persons concerned.

The application can be completed online.

The completion by the competent authority takes place within four weeks of the application being submitted.

No documents are required.

Costs and fees

  • Initial placement of containers: free of charge
  • Collection of residual waste:
    subject to a charge according to the tariff overview "Household waste charges"German text
  • Change in the number of residual waste containers or the emptying interval:
    14.30 euros federal fee and an additional 6.54 euros administrative fee if the change is made
  • Emptying of waste paper containers and organic waste bins: free of charge

Further information

The organic waste bins are emptied weekly during the growing season. During the winter months, the organic bins are emptied fortnightly.
