Residence permit/visa

The documents required to apply for a residence permit or visa abroad must be prepared and presented as part of the application.

Generally speaking, third‑country nationals require a valid  passport (‘passport requirement’) upon entry, during their stay and upon departure. Entry is only permitted if the passport is valid for three months after the planned date of departure from the Schengen area and was issued within the last ten years.

Personal documentation

Other important personal documents (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, adoption certificate where applicable) should also be brought along to Austria. The documents may also need to be translated

Any certificates, degree certificates, certificates of employment and character references for use when seeking employment in Austria or for other purposes must be the originals. The documents may also need to be translated

Examination certificates and school attendance certificates for any children, translated into English/German, will help to place them quickly in the correct school year.
